• Typical high quality Lonely Planet guide, intermediate between backpackers' style and luxury style. Aimed at travelers, rather than mere tourists. That is, we like to interact with the locals and get immersed in the ambiance of each place we visit, rather that just check off a list of tourist sites visited. We use Rick Steves for Europe and Lonely Planet for the rest of the world.
• This is a very comprehensive guide with information on many different areas in Fiji. It was very helpful in planning places to visit and estimating visit times in the country. Limited usefulness in choosing accommodations, as this wonderful series is geared towards budget travelers.
• A great way to organize your trip! I first started planning my trip to Fiji by going online, but there is so much information, It's just hard to organize all the information. This guide is perfect for organizing and planning.
• I really enjoyed reading this book. I wish there was more information on Savusavu though.
• Its a little smaller than I thought it would be, but it seems to include more activities than I thing I'll be able to do in any one trip.
• Do not buy! Not accurate. Referrals to a particular page number are inaccurate. Quits difficult to find the info I needed

  This second of two volumes on the history of The House of Rothschild, written by Harvard historian Niall Ferguson, continues the family’s adventures from the third to the fifth generation, and then up to the turn of the 21st century. With exception of the epilogue, which draws on public materials, the Author’s sources include the private correspondence of family members and is thus able to offer an original insight into the family’s history. Despite Ferguson’s clear and fluent prose, I sometimes felt lost in the narrative because of the growing number of family members, unable to know who was whom.
  
  As the first volume, this sequence has fourteen chapters grouped in three parts, plus an epilogue Uncles and Nephews (chapters 1-5 the quest for emancipation; the fast social transformations of 1849-1858; impacts of nationalism; of the transition to the gold monetary standard; and the death of James, the last surviving son, and events leading to the 1870 war); through those of Cousins (chapters 6-13 the aftermath of war; the distancing of fourth generation Rothschilds from banking; Sionism; diversification from banking and the building of the multinational mining empire; involvement with politics, mainly in Britain; imperialism; the Games of Alliances; the financing of the arms race preceding 1914), to the times of Descendants (chapter 14, about the apparent decline of the family between 1915 and 1945). The Epilogue covers the period from the War to the 21st century and hails a revival of the Rothschild role in the world.
  
  The text is illustrated with graphs, tables, diagrams and figures; some sources are transcribed in the appendixes. Sadly, illustrations are difficult to follow on certain models, and notes were suppressed in the paper and editions. The scholarly reader should prefer the hardcover edition.
  
  It is difficult to say which of the two volumes is the best one. As with the first, Ferguson seems keener on unmasking myths and giving his say, in the new light of the private correspondence, on every deserving question ever posed in the vast literature than on presenting new questions or contrasting the family with other banks and financial empires in order to understand how the family created value or what the several branches’ roles were in the several multinational companies he mentions, when the Rothschild thrift and creativity outgrew financial markets. If this second volume offers perhaps less vivid depictions of the cousins and descendants personalities, it gains in detail and, maybe helped by more reliable sources, offers a somewhat sounder narrative.
  
  I’m no Rothschild specialist and this is the first book I read on the subject, but it left me with the feeling this set of books probably is the state of art on the subject. It was certainly a great read, albeit extensive. I do not hesitate in recommending it.
• Wishing to learn more about the legendary Rothschild family I identified Niall Ferguson's as the best possible source for objective knowledge. And I wasn't disappointed. A little dry at times, I soldiered on through the least interesting bits of what I consider minutia (e.g. 10,000 rentes sold at 87 on September 12, 1842, etc.) to get to the picture of who the Rothschilds were back then leading up to who they are today which I look forward to learning in Volume II. As others have noted, this is an excellent book for students of finance and/or history but as a student of the Rothschilds themselves I was less interested in the microscopic details and much more captivated by the rise of this humble family from dirt-poor origins to taking their place on the world stage. To be fair to Mr. Ferguson, the details and minutia are part of what made their meteoric rise possible and he can't be faulted for his incredible attention to detail. To his immense credit, the author maintained an academic and analytically-balanced posture from page one to the end. Small bits of humor - most steeped in irony - pepper the pages adding even more flavor. For anyone interested in the the three key topics covered in this book - finance in the 19th century, 19th century world history and the Rothschilds themselves - this book will reward the reader with a treasure trove of knowledge.
• Interested in economic history? You will learn a great deal about the early development of the modern banking system (1790-1850 approximately) from this book. Not to mention the development of government fiscal and monetary practice. That is all to be expected, and the book delivers.
  
  But I was surprised, and interested, to find so much information about the position of Jews throughout Europe during the period, especially in the early chapters. Of course I had some general knowledge of the legal restrictions they faced, but now I have a much clearer picture. In Frankfurt, the place of origin for the Rothschilds, Jews were subjected to severe legal handicaps. How in the world did so many become doctors, scholars and bankers? I'm familiar with the ideas about how Jews turned in these directions because they had no other economic outlets. But as individuals, they also had to bring integrity, hard work and sheer grit. Beside a simmering sense of outrage I came to admire these people a whole lot.

• I never (well, RARELY) write reviews, but had to for this book. After YEARS of slowly collecting bits and pieces of knowledge, experience, etc. with different supplementation ideas, I was still confused and overwhelmed. Facebook forums are great for sharing stories, but how to know what you should believe? For example, I had heard a lot about Magnesium, and how it has been so helpful to so many, but there are so many different types - I never did figure out which one was the best. I didn't understand WHY it was helpful, how much I should give, what type, what brand, etc. Dr. Greenblatt does a perfect job explaining in easy-to-understand terms, but still clinically (with tons of references to studies performed worldwide), WHY ADHD kids' brains may be responding the way they do, and how it could be corrected. Obviously, every child is different, but he lays it out in a step-by-step format, so you can start with the #1 thing he has seen results from (adding a Magnesium supplement), and work your way through. He explains different tests that can be run for various problems (gut imbalances, food intolerances, vitamin & mineral deficiencies (or imbalances), etc.). If the test reveals a problem, he has a suggestion for how to resolve it. It is everything I have been searching for in one manageable source. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of results can be achieved. My boy (11) has been on ADHD meds for two years, as has been necessary for school. It worked great for keeping him on task and focused, but the side effects of moodiness when they wear off, and lack of growth (and appetite) are enough that we are taking him off for the summer. This book came at the perfect time, we can try out these natural methods and not have to worry about school suffering in the meantime. I will try and remember to update this review if I see any results from any of the recommendations.
• I thank the authors for bringing this information to a wider audience. Still, I'm glad that I kept researching after reading it. Reading only a couple of chapters of Why Isn't My Brain Working by Datis Kharrazian caused me to scale back my enthusiasm for Finally Focused. By the time I finished Dr. Kharrazian's book, I was convinced that just reading Finally Focused without any other input could encourage an overly simplistic approach to brain health. With more research, it becomes clear that diet changes and balancing blood sugar must come first and that more information is needed before supplementing with vitamins and minerals that have potential for toxicity. Those of us who are sick of doctors treating symptoms rather than addressing root causes must resist the temptation to replace the drug du jour with the supplement du jour. No matter what we put in our bodies, we must thoroughly understand its impact on the complex biochemistry of our brain and body.
  
  So far I haven't found much information from other sources about nutritional lithium but I am still looking; Finally Focused provides enough information and support for its efficacy that I think it is worth looking into further. Still it’s unfortunate that Dr. Greenblatt placed his blood sugar chapter toward the end of the book. If we all learned and internalized half of the many ways blood sugar imbalance disrupts almost every bodily function from the head down, I doubt we would ever see candy and convenience foods as harmless and fruit juice as healthy. Reading Dr. Kharrazian’s book makes me understand why we need to start with diet changes to regulate blood sugar and get exercise for better circulation. Rather than telling patients to eat well and exercise as an afterthought, all doctors – but especially functional medicine practitioners – should make clear exactly what they mean by that and why it is vital. After addressing glucose balance and getting oxygen to the brain, patients can be properly evaluated for support.
• My 4-year-old was just diagnosed with ADHD (but we've been living with his symptoms for about three years now), and I ordered this (audio) book because I am insistent on finding natural help for him- I am adamant about not giving him toxic drugs.
  
  Anyway, my husband and I have only just begun listening to the book, but we are in awe! In fact, I had researched Dr. Greenblatt's recommendations prior to receiving the book (my parents sent me his article in a newsletter that they found- which began my search); and we had already begun Magnesium and Lithium Orotate before we started to learn more indepthly about it via the audio book. Wow! We saw a huge difference in just one day- literally (and keep in mind that this is a 4.75-year-old boy who was expelled from Pre-K4 due to his behavior)!
  
  Add to that, our son was his former "wild" self one night- a couple of days into implementing the Magnesium and Lithium Orotate- of which we later learned that he did not take his Magnesium supplement during lunch, which I had put in his lunch box for him to take. No wonder he was wild again! Another indication that we're on the right track!
  
  We can't wait to delve further into the book to hear Dr. Greenblatt's other recommendations for ADHD, to assist our son even further! My only "qualm" with the audio portion of the book is that it's really a must to have a pen and paper available as you're listening, because Dr. Greenblatt gives specific information- specific types and dosages of products, etc.- that you'll need to write down in order to refer back to it for treating your child (or yourself). It would be much easier to have the actual book in front of you and highlight things you'll need to refer back to.
  
  Thank you SO much for your work, Dr. Greenblatt! And thank you so much for the detailed information you give in your book! From a parent's perspective, it feels like you laid-out in detail in your book exactly what you would have prescribed if we actually had an appointment for our son with you in your clinic in Massachusetts. But this book saves us from plane flights and thousands of dollars in order to travel from Arkansas to your clinic. You have no idea! After years of concern, chaos and tears, we finally have hope! And optimistic hope- without medication (which is KEY for us!). You have NO IDEA how comforting that is... and to see results so quickly! We are in awe, and are are forever grateful! THANK YOU!

• I really enjoyed this book. I am a retired physicist having taught for thirty years. I wish I had had the resources of knowing the personal details of all the principals in this story. An impressive job of research and an even better job of telling the story. And the mysteries continue. Why has the sun forsaken its eleven year cycle, and when will the earth burden us with its next field reversal? The book tells us that reversals take around ten thousand years to complete. During that time, we expect that cosmic rays will cause untold genetic disruption. Nevertheless the book itself is a welcome addition to the conversation. Well done.
• This rather exhaustive review of the study of planetary magnetism is scholarly and worth reading. It contains just over 20% tables definitions and cast of characters lists, that are largely unneeded. The author does a more than adequate job of describing and introducing all elements within the text. For me it is just fluff used to plump up the book to a more respectable size. The author's passion for the subject is very apparent but is in some ways given less impact than a different editor may have been able to draw out. The subject is interesting, the science still somewhat incomplete, the scientists involved are complicated characters in their own rights.
  
  I paid full retail for this book and feel well compensated for my toils to earn the opportunity to read it. I have and will recommend this book to many curious friends and acquaintances.
• This book follows a historical timeline to explain how the current view of the source of Earth's magnetic field came about. I really enjoyed the first half of the book for weaving together the contributions of so many big names in science, and how they made contributions to this field and others. The initial problem statement of needing to explain the Earth's magnetic field comes from explorers seeing the effects of declination, and their measurements varying with time was a very interesting perspective. I also had a very fundamental curiosity about why compass needles need to be balanced for the Northern vs Southern hemispheres, and what mechanics were involved in generating the flip of the polarity of Earth's magnetic field. Both of these questions were answered in the book.
  
  If the book has any fault, I think that that the final chapters felt a bit rushed, and that we would benefit from some further explanation, especially as the scientists get to computer modelling in the early 1990's. In general, I thought the book was very entertaining, engaging and informative. I'm off to order another copy for my Dad for Father's Day.
• The subject is timely, given the recent acceleration of the magnetic declination. Dr. Turner presents the history of geomagnetic research clearly and succinctly. She has an accessible style and defines terminology without getting lost in jargon.
  The downside seems to be that the answers to the questions regarding Earth's magnetic field have yet to yield to scientific scrutiny. We have good theories, but no firm answers yet.
  This is a thoroughly enjoyable book.
• Avery interesting story about the mystery and puzzles of magnetism and electricity and how people eventually figured them out.
• North Pole South Pole The Epic Quest to Solve the Great Mystery of Earth's Magnetism is a very well researched and written historical account. Ramifications of the research are clearly presented and the reader is lead by eager expectation of what will be presented next. Anecdotes of researchers lives lighten the reading and difficult mathematical concepts are presented in a casual manner without equations so that readers can easily go and look up the detailed maths involved if they are so inspired. The book leads into the subject of plate tectonics which itself is a whole other story. As a creationist, this reviewer is dissapointed that it does not discuss free decay models of the earths magnetic field and that it assumes that radio-isotopic dating ramifications on the field of the earth are not questionable, however, it will be exceptionally valuable to any creationist wishing to study the subject. Anyone studying physics or geology should read this book to help them convey their studies to a wider audience in a captivating manner.

• This book was a wonderful journey through Ancient Rome and Egypt. It was a fascinating look at the history and politics. It held my attention all the way through and now I’m anxious for the second installment. Highly recommended.
• I am an avid reader and lover of historical fiction but had never read about this period of history of Ancient Rome. I loved reading about Marc Antony as a child and as he grew into adolescent and adulthood, his trials and troubles with women and gambling and drinking and how badly he wanted to serve under Julius Caesar in the military. My favorite part was his relationship with Fadia. Enjoyed all the references to mythology. This book ends right when Antony meets Cleopatra so I’m excited for the next installment in the series. Great debut novel!

• I studied these people in high school but have never read a historical fiction novel about them. This book is so well written the reader feels as if they are staying there right beside young Marcus at the beginning. The dialogue and descriptions are fabulous and realistic. Fascinating to watch these historical characters develop before your eyes. This author paints a vivid picture of ancient Rome and its people. I love the way she explores the different relationships in her character's lives. I highly recommend this book to any lover of historical fiction and any reader who enjoyed a well-written and well-edited book.

  I thought I knew the story of Marc Antony having read more than one book on Rome during the late period of the Republic, not to mention watching numerous movies and mini series. I was wrong. Antonius Son of Rome by Brook Allen, the first entry of a planned trilogy, introduces us to the preteen Marcus Antonius of noble birth who dreams of a glorious military career like that of his illustrious distant cousin Gaius Julius Caesar.  The path to glory doesn’t come easily for this young man who must confront fallout from his father’s death as a military coward and the unlawful death sentence of a kind stepfather who is declared a traitor to the Republic. Only once young Marcus accepts his own part in his failings and misadventures does he begin down that twisted road to glorious destiny. 
  
  Brook Allen has masterfully taken us along on that journey. Her attention to detail and character smoothly draws the reader right along with Marcus in this enjoyable read leaving you looking forward to his ongoing adventures in future books. Five Stars
• I read many historical novels but never any of Ancient Rome. This book was so good. I loved learning about who Marc Antony was and his life. Reading this novel makes you feel like you are right along side him as he grows up. Nice descriptions of his home and the cities where he goes. You feel like you are back in Ancient Rome. This was a very interesting story that kept me up till late at night so I could keep going. One of those books that you wish wouldn’t end. Can’t wait for her second book in the trilogy. I did not buy my book on but got it as a gift. I am so glad I read it
