True Brit Celebrating The Comic Book Artists Of England George Khoury David Roach Jon B Cooke Eric Nolen Weathingon Books Reviews
- "True Brit" gives Americans a long overdue examination of some of the luminaries of British comic book art. If you didn't know who Frank Bellamy, Syd Jordan, John M. Burns and Don Lawrence were before reading this book you'll certainly admire their elegant artwork when you read their respective profiles. I think the key difference between the American and English comic book form is that in the latter the superhero doesn't dominate the medium as it has in America. The result is a wide variety of styles and a wider range of material for English readers. "True Brit" is an excellent addition to any library.
- There is one thing you can always be sure of with George Khoury. He KNOWS his subject of comics. Here it is 2013 and I'm only just now reading this book. The interviews with the cartoonists of my youth in Australia & London are here. Ron Embelton, Frank Bellamy (truely the best along with John M. Burns) are just wonderful reading. The art is well chosen and I liked the design of the book. You want to see some illustrative comic art? Then look no further and take a read down memory lane. Kinda like a Beatles tune set to PENNY LANE in pictures.
- Pity that you can't get a book solely on the work of Ron Embleton...or can you?
